Pet Vaccinations From Our Katy Veterinarian

Pet vaccinations are just one of the many services offered by our Katy veterinary team. If your pet is due for vaccinations, or if you're not sure about your pet's vaccination status, now is a great time to schedule an appointment with our team at Katy Area Veterinary Medical Group. We offer a full range of vaccinations for both dogs and cats alike, and by vaccinating your pet, you can prepare your pet's immune system to fight all kinds of infections and diseases. That's because vaccines work by encouraging the production of antibodies in your pet's body.

The Importance of Up-to-Date Vaccinations

Keeping your pet up-to-date on all recommended vaccinations is the best thing you can do to protect your pet from any number of illnesses, infections, and even fatal diseases. However, because even a small lapse in vaccinations could put your pet at risk, it's important that you follow your pet's vaccination schedule as accurately as possible. If you don't have a current vaccination schedule for your pet, we can provide you one after completing a comprehensive wellness exam in our office. From there, you'll know exactly which dates your pet is due for which vaccines.

Keeping your pet vaccinated is also important if you use any groomers, pet boarding services, or similar facilities (including dog parks). That's because these facilities will require that you show proof of up-to-date vaccination for the protection of staff and other pets in their care. In this sense, if you forget to have your pet vaccinated, you could be unable to utilize these services.

And of course, since some diseases are transferrable from pets to humans (with rabies being a prime example of this), vaccinating your pet is also a great way to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Vaccinations Offered in Our Office

Whether you have a dog or cat, we offer the vaccinations your pet needs to stay up-to-date and protected. One of the most common vaccines we administer in our office is the rabies vaccine for both dogs and cats. Depending on the specific vaccination used, one injection can be good for anywhere from one to three years.

In addition to the rabies vaccine, some other common vaccinations we may recommend for puppies and dogs include:

  • canine distemper (core vaccine)
  • parvovirus
  • leptospirosis
  • canine influenza

If you have a cat or kitten, we may recommend some or all of the following vaccines:

  • feline distemper (core)
  • feline leukemia
  • panleukopenia
  • calcivirus

Any "core" vaccines should generally be administered to pets, whereas "non-core" vaccines may vary based on your pet's specific risk factors, lifestyle, and other unique needs.

Schedule an Appointment with our Katy Veterinarian

If you have paperwork for your pet's most recent vaccinations, we ask that you bring them in for our Katy veterinarian to look at during your pet's vaccination appointment. This will help us best determine your pet's vaccination needs. If you don't have any paperwork, don't fret. We can work with you to determine which vaccines your pet needs and provide you with an updated vaccination schedule.
