Meet Our Team

  • Dr. Kenneth DeRemer, DVM
    Veterinarian & Owner

I was born and raised in New Jersey, and moved to the west coast (California) for my graduate studies. I graduated from veterinary school in 1983 from the University of California at Davis. I moved to the Portland area shortly after graduation. I started my first clinic, Paws and Claws Pet Medical Center, as a house-call practice while its current facility was being finished. The doors to Paws and Claws opened in 1994. In 2008 I purchased Peninsula Dog and Cat Clinic in North Portland. I now split my time between both practices, working Mondays at Paws & Claws, and working the rest of the week here at Peninsula Dog & Cat Clinic. My wife and I have 3 children: KC, Ben, and Wyatt.Currently I have 1 dog, 2 cats, and a parrot. In my free time (which seems rare) I enjoy fishing and crafting home-brewed beer.

I have loved reptiles and amphibians all of my life. As a child, growing up in Portland Oregon, I would spend a lot of time looking for snakes, frogs, salamanders, lizards and turtles. My love for animals grew over my years, leading me to become a Certified Veterinary Technician. I love working with all types of animals, and have been doing it professionally for over 20 years. In my not so free time, I enjoy the outdoors, fishing and volunteering.

  • Maddie
    Veterinary Assistants

I grew up in Portland. Over the years I have owned and cared for dogs, cats, birds, hamsters and turtles! I started dog sitting and dog walking years ago, which led me to pursue working in the veterinary field. I joined the team at Peninsula Dog & Cat Clinic as a Kennel Attendant in April of 2018. I really enjoy working with a team who devote their time to helping animals and who care about animals as much as I do. This is the first clinic that I have worked at, and I am lucky to have such great teachers to help me advance my skills. As soon as I started I knew this was the right career path for me. At home I have a Scottish fold, a Persian, a French Bulldog and a Golden Doodle. My dream job is to become a veterinarian, and I am excited about my journey to get there. In my free time I enjoy hiking and exploring, hanging with my animals and spending time with family and friends.
