Hills Science Diet

The history of Hills Science Diet starts with a guide dog to a young blind man, Mr. Morris Frank. His companion dog, Buddy, was suffering from kidney failure. Dr. Mark Morris Sr., together with his wife, Louise, formulated dog food specifically intended to help with Buddy's failing kidneys. That dog food was manufactured in their kitchen by Louise and three other women. This was the beginning of the Hills Science Diet legacy, named Raritan Ration B. This groundbreaking food was designed for dogs with renal problems.

In 1948, the famous pet food company got its name when Dr. Morris partnered with Burton Hill. Hill Packing Company and Dr. Morris eventually became Hills Pet Nutrition. Over the years, Dr. Morris established a research lab and began to produce therapeutic and prescription pet foods. When Dr. Morris' son, Dr. Mark Morris Jr., joined the company, he began to move the pet food forward into the veterinarian’s office arena.

Hills Pet Nutrition was purchased by the Colgate-Palmolive company in 1976. This made the special food available around the world and led to making the original formulas even better. Now one of the leading pet foods available, Hills Prescription Diet, Hills Science Diet, and Hills Ideal Balance, continues the tradition of high-quality pet food. These fine foods are made to accommodate pets of every size, need, and age.

Royal Canin

Jean Cathary, a veterinarian who specialized in horses and bulls, always believed that food was key to the health and well-being of animals. In 1968, Cathary produced the first food known as Royal Canin. Over the next 50 or so years, the company grew and strived to improve its formulas. Through acquisition by the Guyomarc'h group, Royal Canin foods gained expertise as well as financial support to research and develop a more nutritionally precise formula. In 1990, the company was purchased by Paribas Affaires Industrielles which resulted in a worldwide distribution of pet foods.

In the last 10 years, Royal Canin has worked with veterinarians all over the world to expand its formulas to meet the nutritional needs of nearly every breed of dog based on DNA research. Also, they have released a pet food that addresses pets with extremely sensitive immune systems to virtually eliminate food allergies for pets.

In 2016, the company teamed up with Eukanuba, to create more innovative ways to feed the world's felines and canines. Royal Canin's latest contributions include the ICU range. This is a revolutionary liquid diet for dogs and cats that are being tube-fed due to a critical condition. ICU range is full of the nutrients needed for these pets to heal and live a long life.
