Dr. Courtney Pope has joined Rhinebeck Equine’s internal medicine team.
Dr. Courtney Pope is originally from Concord, Massachusetts where she grew up with horses in her backyard. As a kid, she sometimes even rode her pony to school! She is a graduate of the United States Pony Club and competed actively in eventing.
Dr. Pope graduated from Brown University with a degree in Applied Mathematics - Biology. She then graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. Following graduation, Dr. Pope completed a one-year rotating hospital internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. During this year, she developed her love of internal medicine and neonatology. Dr. Pope completed her residency in 2020 and will be sitting for the boards in the spring of 2021.
Dr. Pope then worked as an associate veterinarian at Fairfield Equine Associates in Newtown, Connecticut. After two years, her passion for internal medicine drove her to seek advanced training and she returned to the University of Pennsylvania for a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine. Throughout her three year residency, Dr. Pope was awarded numerous teaching awards and continued to foster her love of the specialty.
Dr. Pope enjoys all aspects of internal medicine but has a special interest in neonatology, neurology, and emergency and critical care. Dr. Pope is so excited to be part of the team at Rhinebeck Equine. She lives on a small farm with her husband, Dr. James Marmion, also an equine vet, and their herd of horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and ducks (and hopefully soon, goats!).
