Pet Illness Care

Many of our pet owners are unsure of when their pet is not feeling well but will recover on their own and when they need urgent care or emergency pet care. Our pets are unable to tell us when they aren't feeling well or are in pain. Our team is here to provide emergency pet care and urgent care during our regular office hours. If your pet is exhibiting signs of illness or has had an injury, call us immediately and let the receptionist know the urgent nature of the situation. At North Central Animal Hospital we understand that pets are an important part of the family and our veterinarians are here to provide the level of care that your pet deserves!

Signs and Symptoms of Common Pet Illnesses

One of the most common causes of an unscheduled vet visit is the ingestion of a harmful substance. We encourage all of our pet owners to safeguard their homes to help prevent these mishaps. Call us right away if your pet has gotten into something that they shouldn't have, as a quick response time can help to minimize the harm caused. Pets can also come down with illnesses and require treatment to prevent dehydration and other complications. If your pet has any of the following, call North Central right away to schedule an appointment:

  • Increased drooling
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Aggressiveness
  • Lethargy
  • Bleeding from the gums or mouth
  • Refusal to eat or drink
  • Hard panting that does not go away

Another common cause for a vet visit is physical injury, such as being hit by a car or experiencing other physical trauma. In such cases please bring your pet to the hospital right away so that we can begin immediate treatment. Pets are unable to tell us where they hurt or when they are not feeling well, but by paying attention to any changes in their behavior or disposition we can usually detect when something is wrong.

Common pet illnesses are usually treatable when caught right away and treatment is begun in a timely manner. As an important part of the family, your pet deserves the level of care that is provided at North Central Animal Hospital.
