Vaccines FAQs

Pet Vaccination FAQs From North Central Animal Hospital

North Central Animal Hospital is your #1 choice for veterinary care in Phoenix. We are also a specialized bird hospital.

What are vaccines for?

Vaccines prevent your pet from getting diseases that can be passed from animal to animal and also from animals to people. They are designed to trigger the immune system response to help the pet’s body develop antibodies. This helps to protect the pet from disease. You can avoid costly treatment in the future by taking preventative action. Many places require pets to get certain vaccines in order to be safe and healthy.

When should you vaccinate your pets?

Puppies receive vaccinations every two to four weeks until they are about four months old. Many can be given to dogs as young as six weeks old. After this series is completed, they may need to do booster shots. Be sure to ask your vet.

Cats get vaccines from when they are six to eight weeks old up until 16 weeks. These shots should be completed every three to four weeks.  Then, they are scheduled to receive yearly booster shots.

Why is it important to vaccinate your cat or dog at different life stages?

Protect your puppy or kitten for their lives with vaccines. Help your adult pet stay healthy with regular vaccines. If you recently moved to an area or you are traveling, see what vaccines are needed to be a responsible pet owner.
