At Advanced Animal Care of Colorado we understand that your pets are your family. We realize that it can be scary to have your dog undergoing an anesthetic and surgical procedure. Because of this we adapt our surgical and anesthetic plans and tailor them to the individual. We take into account concurrent conditions, diet, body condition, and anything else that may affect the safety of your pet. This translates to you as peace-of-mind in knowing that every procedure is performed in a high quality manner and that steps are taken along the way in order to ensure safety, comfort and well-being for your pet.

Prior to undergoing anesthesia every pet is screened by one of our competent and knowledgeable veterinarians with a rigorous physical examination. Blood work and a urinalysis are performed as a general full-body health screen to be sure that there are no underlying conditions that may affect the processing of the medications and drugs used. Every patient under anesthesia has an intravenous catheter in place and receives intravenous fluids in order to support blood pressure and organ function. The intravenous catheter also allows administration of medications throughout the procedure. 

We utilize state-of-the-art anesthesia monitoring to include:

blood pressure assessment, CO2, pulse oximetry (oxygen saturation), EKG, heat support and temperature measurement. All of our anesthetic machines are blue tooth enabled meaning that the dedicated technician performing anesthesia can focus on patient care and not on charting. Furthermore, all of our technicians are trained extensively in order to recognize subtle changes in the monitoring vales in order to adjust the anesthetic plan prior to it becoming an issue for your pet.   

Pain management is an integral component of every procedure performed at Advanced Animal Care of Colorado. We are proactive with pain management and provide pain relief in our preanesthetic medications, throughout the procedure, post-operatively, as well as to go home. Some examples of pain control throughout procedures include: local nerve blocks, constant rate infusion of narcotic pain medications and epidurals.
