Pet Memorials

We recognize what a vital part our pets play in our lives.

Our pets provide us with unconditional love, companionship, kindness and support.

We understand how traumatic it can be to lose a pet family member, as we have all experienced this tragedy ourselves.

As long as we remember them, they will live in our hearts forever. Memorializing a special pet is one way of honoring them.

If you care to honor a pet that has past, please send us a dedication and/or picture.

Izzy

Lizard.png

I remember when I first met you. I was visiting a friend at their house and there you were on their kitchen floor. Your claws scratching on the tile is what caught my attention. I was instantly drawn to you. I wanted to pick you up, pet you, play with you, etc. You were just so beautiful! I would look forward to spending time over at your owners house just to be able to hang out with you. It wasn’t too long after we first met that my friend called me and asked if I was interested in adopting you since they could no longer care for you. We both know what happened from there.

When I first took you in to Petco, you were the talk of the store. Everyone loved seeing you and your colors. They were all so impressed with your personality and the way you kept yourself composed. No matter who it was that wanted to pet you. After quite some time speaking to one of the attendants at the store, they asked me if I knew whether you were a male or female. I was assured when I first adopted you that you were a female. Hence your girly name ‘Izzybella.’ Well …….. turns out ……… I was misinformed. So, you’re manly name turned to ‘Izzydorr.’ I knew this helped your complex right away.

You were always such the best little eater. You loved eating from my hands or sometimes just preferred to eat from your bowl in your cage. Your favorites were squash, zucchini and kiwi. You went nuts for them. There were a few times that I would place you in some grass out in the yard and you were so excited to be able to eat all around. You seemed to have so much fun when you were out of your cage and was able to just do your own thing and navigate all around.

I will miss giving you your baths. I knew you looked forward to them every day after I got off of work. You loved the warmth of the water and seldom did I find you not trying to fall asleep while in there. That was your time to relax and do your ‘manly’ stuff.

You will be remembered forever, Izzy. Your character and charisma was something that never suffered and that will remain in our hearts. Even your Veterinarian called you a ‘stoic kid.’ Your Momma A, Momma S, Grandma, Aunties and all your friends will always love you. We will still be able to visit with you where you are at now. In a beautiful spot on top of our shelf at home.

Rest well, my son.

Ruby

ruby.pngMy thoughts are with everyone that has experienced the profound sadness that comes with the loss of a pet family member.

In July of 2002, my life changed with the adoption of a little 6 week old clown and mutt that I named Ruby. Through the years I have been asked thousands of times “what is she” by people laughing at her appearance. My Pug/West Highland Terrier has been a constant companion and much support for me through the better and worst of times.

When urinary incontinence occurred, I falsely blamed Ellie, my 14 year old Labrador Retriever. However, Ruby’s blood work, X-rays and ultrasound told the truth. An exploratory surgery revealed cancer of her intestines, liver and spleen that was too invasive to be operable and too advanced to consider chemo therapy.

rubyssupervisor.png

Ruby’s antics through the years always kept me laughing. She believed that anything made of cardboard should be destroyed immediately, that the bed, couch and toys were hers to hog and that if anyone was sitting down, you should allow her to sit on your lap backwards while giving her a back massage. However, every car ride allowed her to play one of her favorite games—Surfing the Curves. For those of you that can’t envision this, try picturing an 18 pound mutt with her two front feet on the consul between the front seats and her rear two feet stretched to the back seats while in a standing position. She would look ahead on the road, wag her curly tail and position herself for an upcoming curve. With my added comment of “hang on”, she would anticipate the direction of the curve and prop 1 front foot sideways on the appropriate front seat to be able to support herself and really lean through the curves. Once the curve was complete, she would wag her tail more excitedly and then look at me with the expression of self satisfaction. “Mom, that was fun, let’s do it again” seemed to be what she was telling me. S curves were her favorite.

I have always been curious about drivers following me during these times as I would over exaggerate a curve to add to Ruby’s love of the car surfing game. Hopefully no one recognized me or labeled me as an old lady driver.

Ruby has been a greeter in the reception room of Everett Veterinary Hospital & Boarding House for the last 12 years, my walking companion, bed partner, door bell, floor cleaner, gardening buddy, fly catcher and confidant. She was well loved by so many and I know I was blessed to have shared the last 12 years with her.

Ruby the Supervisor

Whether 2 or 4 legged, it is always painful to lose a loved one. Preparing oneself for the pending death of an old pet is difficult but you can’t prepare yourself for the unexpected situations. I have been on the Doctor side of this sad situation far too many times but this experience has served to humble me.

Thank you to everyone that has been part of my Ruby’s life.

The Life of Lewis

Lewis-Puppy-250x187.jpg

Lewis-with-Kids-273x300.jpg

From the beginning, Lewis would prance into the room as if to say, “I’m here, I’m lookin’ good”. And he was looking good. He had an air of supreme confidence, yet he was the sweetest, most sensitive and gentle dog. He was the smartest dog I have ever known, which added to his charm and got him into trouble too.

He was also known as Lewie, Lew Lew, Lewis Walter and Lew Lew Larue.

I met Lewis’ brother, Guy, at my grandson’s birthday party in 2002. Guy’s humans told me there was one puppy left in the litter, and it was Lewis. Their mom was a Jack Russell short smooth coat, and their dad was a standard Dachshund. All six puppies in the litter looked alike.

He came into my life at a very difficult time, and it was the best thing for me. He is an Idaho guy, and was named after Meriwether Lewis, of Lewis and Clark. The first thing Lewis taught me was that if you are ever going through a bad time, get a puppy. He will give you comfort and unconditional love that you can’t find anywhere else.

He has always loved little children, no doubt because Rosie was his first little-kid friend, and she has a special way with animals. They remained friends throughout his life.

Lewis was enthusiastic about everything he did. He played tether ball, he dug trenches, he rolled in dead geese, laid down to cool off in a puddle of horse pee, and was intensely loyal and loving. At the dog park, he delighted in getting big dogs to chase him, then he would zig zag and reverse course, leaving them scrambling to change directions.

He was a Houdini-level escape artist, scaling a six-foot chain link kennel with ease, and digging under the fence to go play with the dog next door.

When Buddy came into Lewis’ life, they were best friends from the start. Lewis, just a puppy, instinctively knew that Buddy was old and must be treated gently and with respect. When they played mouth-bite, Lewis would just nudge Buddy with the side of his head.

Lewis loved to stretch out and run in wide open places, like the beach and in the snow. It was wonderful to watch his pure joy at those times. He would zig zag and leap for the pure pleasure of doing so.

The cabin was Lewis’ favorite place, and I am glad that he got to spend the last three years of his life there. It was his territory, and he assumed responsibility to keep the area clear of moles, voles, birds, squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, ducks and geese. Twice, he was almost killed by raccoons and had to be rescued. He remained confident in his abilities, even though he had only limited success. His best talent was digging, and he dug with a vengeance, leaving deep holes and trenches. It’s a good thing we live in the forest and don’t have a lawn.

Lewis always loved a good fire, whether it be inside or out. When he wanted a fire in the fireplace, he would stand on the hearth and look at us until we complied with his demand.

The creek was part of his domain. He was not a swimmer, but did wade regularly, and followed up by rolling in the dirt.

He was a dog with no boundaries. He assumed that he could go wherever he pleased, and be welcomed. He regularly jumped onto the dining room table searching for treats, could sometimes open cupboard doors, was adept at breaking into the garbage can, and everybody’s lap was fair game.

He was such a handsome dog, loved to cuddle and we believe that he was Prince of All Dogs in the World. Each evening, he jumped into my lap, leaned against me and tucked his head under my chin.

There will never be another dog like you, Lewis. Thank you for eleven years of joy, laughter, tears, cuddling, comfort, understanding, loyalty and companionship. I will love you forever.

* * * EMMA * * *

DSCN0251.jpgI was brought to EVH in 2010 because I was an ugly duckling Parottlet due to my habit of feather plucking. The team here at EVH knew that I had potential and deserved love so they decided to adopt me. I now have a big cage, a stuffed cuddling dog to preen and many many fun toys to play with. I do have a favorite toy that I love to destroy so my new family orders a lot of them for me. This helps to keep me very happy and busy so now I don’t pick at my feathers as much.

Parrotlets, if you didn’t know, are the smallest of the parrot species. We are known for our intelligence, affectionate nature and clown like personalities. My see-through home is in the reception area where I can tantalize the two dogs all day.

I still think beauty is in the eyes of the beholder as I know I am gorgeous in my new down feathers. You can say hi to me as well as long as you don’t laugh.

* * * WALTER * * *

Sir Walter O’Reily McDonald

When you came into our lives, you were so teeny tiny,
Even tho you were small, oh but you were Mighty.

You brought a great deal of enjoyment into our lives,
One of your favorite games was to chase and eat Flies.

As you grew, you and Dad began to invent games to play,
He would usually win, sometimes he would let you have it your way.

One day we brought home a DOG, at first you didn’t care,
I don’t think it mattered that she was there.

Then when we brought home Another Dog,
I guess you must have thought we were in a fog.

Thru the years we let you have a number of friends,
You had a lot of fun with them, to no ends.

All in all there were really only three,
Dad, Grammy & ME !

Your forever LOVING Mom

Freda McDonald

Dozer

Mom!

Yer never gonna believe this!!! THIS IS THE MOST WONDERFUL-PLACE IN THE HISTORY OF FOREVER!!! I think its my FAVRIT!!

There’s lots and lots of sniffs! All kinds! They’re my favrit! There’s beautiful butterflies to chase and there’s soft, green grasses and warm cool breezes. Sometimes I just lay there and stare up at the sunny skies and watch the big fluffy clouds go by while I think about you.

There’s lots of mountains to play on; in some places there’s even SNOW! It’s my favrit! There’s big fluffy shade trees and biscuits in the…OH MY GOSH MOM….BISCUITS!!! They ARE my favrit!! The trees are loaded with biscuits and treats, all kinds, yes hanging in the trees here!!! All I have to do is look up and one falls to the ground, just like that. And guess what? They’re all healthy treats, Mom!

There’s these little springs, no not that kind, pools of water, spring water….everywhere! It’s my favrit! No Matter how much slobbers I get in them, they stay fish and you know how I loooove fish (fresh) ice cold water!! Annnnd the food is ALL healthy and never runs out plus there’s all kinds of variety so we never get bored with the food! It is my favrit!

There are clear lakes and creeks and streams we can swim in anytime we want! And Mommmmm guess what? No Dozey DooDoos to pick up here. I don’t know why but I just don’t poop here….no one does. I’m thinking since there’s no bad sniffs here, that might be why I don’t have Dozey DooDoos here. There’s only good sniffs…happy sniffs Mom!!!! I’ll bet that’s yer favrit, huh Mom?

I’ve made SO many friends!! There’s never an argument….everyone is friends here!!! All kinds of friends …cats are here too. And I don’t even have to back into them anymore. I can just walk up and sniff them and they purr instead of hooking on to my nose!

But here’s the best part Mom, I saved it for the last …..I DON”T HURT!!! Nope, not a lick of pain! Here, I can run as fast as I want and it doesn’t hurt one single bit! It’s my favrit cause there’s never suffers here! We don’t even get dirty ears here, can you believe that?

I do miss you but is doesn’t hurt or make me sad. Member what I told you? No suffers here, not even one. I think about you lots and I can hardly wait to see you again! And when I see you again, you better water out cause I’m gonna cover you in kisses! Thank you for taking such good care of me when I was with you. I love you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!

Tigger Taylor

IMG_7022.jpg

Thoughts about Tig by Russell Taylor:

You have always given us you best, love, energy, devotion, and your heart. Some of our memories are:

  • I will always remember you rushing into the house and galloping down the hall bursting into the Master bath to help me dry my legs as I step out of the shower.
  • Eagerly rushing into the house when you come back from a walk with Mom. You always wanted to jump into my lap and help me read or watch tv.
  • Going next door to cheer up Mrs. Catron in her last days. Being at her wake at the request of her husband Jack Catron.
  • Visiting the JW Marketing Support crew at the brickyard. Going down the hall of the trailer and greeting every Graphic Artist and worker.
  • Going to the dentist and seeing your picture on the wall because they too love you.
  • Picking you up at the groomer and asking if you created any problems for them always to be told that Tigger never was bad and always welcome. You seemed to like her Mastiff and the giant liked you too.
  • Eager to drive down to get the paper every morning and being upset if I did not take you.
  • Eagerly meeting Lois or I at the door when we returned for school or an appointment. You always made it a habit to tell us off for leaving you. The high fives we would exchange and then the toy throw down the hall.
  • How you would lure Lois into throwing you treats just before bedtime. She would wear you out by throwing them in a manner and direction that would make you dart all over the house from room to room.
  • Walking down the street in Klamath and people asking about you “where is Tigger”?
  • Knowing that there was always the Right Way, the Wrong Way and Tigger’s Way. You would always re-arrange your blankets, which had to be clean and just do so.
  • The times you would simply whine and look in the direction of the treat storage. Once we did anything you liked you would not let us forget to do it again.
  • Driving you to the Vet, you knew the way and the landmarks and would have your nose pressed against the window. You knew when we would go over the 6th Street overpass you were almost to the Vet.
  • Again at the Vet you had your own pattern. You would march right in and stand on the scale to be weighed because that was what the humans wanted.
