BRISCOE
Briscoe is a 5 yr old Australian Kelpie. Unfortunately he has two stories to tell, but obviously, both
having a good result. The first scenario starts with a normal day at the barn. Just like any other day I
had made the short trip to the barn to turn horses out, and clean my stall. Just like every other time,
Briscoe would go with me, and I would simply turn him loose. While I would clean the stall, he would
wander around the barn checking out smells, and looking for tid bits of grain that the horses may have
dropped. After returning home, and several hours later, I began to notice something didn't seem right
with him. His eyes seemed to be larger, in a manner of speaking, than normal, and it was obvious he
was not able to see. I rushed him to Dr. Anders, and while there, and was able to determine that the
owner of the barn had wormed his horse that day and some had dropped onto the ground in the stall,
and Briscoe had found that. Of course, Briscoe had been under Dr. Anders care for roughly a couple of
years before, and Dr. Anders commented about how it was a good thing that Briscoe was a healthy dog,
as with certain breeds of dogs, getting into wormer can be extremely serious and sometimes, lead to
death. I would leave Briscoe at the clinic for about 3 days under the supervision of the entire staff at
County Animal Clinic. Within a short time of bringing him home, he had fully recovered with no side-
effects whatsoever.
The second, and more recent scenario was a little more difficult in determining. Briscoe, like a lot of
dogs, has always been a happy, active dog. Within the last year, I had slowly started to notice Briscoe
not wanting to do some of the things that he was always willing to do. Briscoe was always glad to
jump up into my son's arms when asked to, as well getting up(jumping) onto various things. It would
progress to where when he would do those things, or even be touched in the right place on his
back, he would whimper and wince considerably. At the same time, in the visits to Dr. Anders, while
treating him for back pain, he would receive injections in his back for that, and it became very difficult
to give those injections as he had gotten so sore in that area of his back. While it was hard to say
exactly what was going without x-rays, we continued to treat him as we had been. Then there came a
day, when Briscoe would become so uncomfortable that he would seem comatose as he simply did not
want to move. At this point, I decided we needed go ahead with digital x-rays. Once we had those, Dr.
Anders was able to determine definitively that Briscoe had developed arthritis, even at his young age.
Along with herbs, Dr. Anders would draw some of Briscoe's blood and use that to create a treatment
called homeotox. At this same time, it was also mentioned that Briscoe would be a candidate for Stem
Cell Surgery. With the cost of that, it wasn't hard to decide to continue with the homeotox. While it
has been a slow process with it's ups and downs for Briscoe, I have begun to get most of the old
Briscoe back. I am still careful not to ask to much, but most of the things that had gotten
difficult/painful for him he is back to doing again. It is this result that says the most about Dr. Anders
and his form of treatment. Any other vet I could have gone to with Briscoe would have simply treated
the symptoms and worked to keep him comfortable, whereas with Dr. Anders, it has always been about
treating/fixing the problem, and not just the symptoms. I have no doubt, Briscoe would not be where
he is today without Dr. Anders.
