James W. Rieser received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota in 1974. Jim was a Veterinarian for a rewarding 41 years and for 25 Years he and his wife, Donna, owned the Forest Home Animal Clinic. James, 69, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Saturday, December 26, 2015.
Dr. Rieser was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA), and the Milwaukee Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA). He was proud to have been nominated as the Best Veterinarian in America for 2007, sponsored by the Morris Animal Foundation and the Merial Corporation.
Jim was the creator of Shooting Starr‘s German Shorthaired Pointers, bred over ten generations of puppies, and sold them throughout the United States and Canada. As a family, the Rieser’s raised more than sixty litters (over 400 puppies) and produced more AKC Master titled dogs than any other breeder of German Shorthaired Pointers. Dr. Rieser believed that the proper selection of physically sound and mentally stable animals is the responsibility of a good breeder. His hobbies and veterinary profession gave him a strong understanding of the importance of a good start with quality genetics. In January 2013 he received the AKC Breeder of Merit Award for his commitment to breeding beautiful, purebred German Shorthair Pointers.
Dr. Rieser was an honorary life member of the German Shorthair Pointer Club of Wisconsin, Kettle Moraine North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA), and a life member of NAVHDA International. He was a long time member of National Shoot To Retrieve Association (NSTRA). Throughout the years he clocked hundreds of hours testing and trialing many dogs. He also held a variety of positions within these organizations including board member, treasurer, vice-president, president, and judge.
Dr. Rieser was married to his wife, Donna, for 44 years and who is the owner and hospital manager. They have two adult sons and an adult daughter who was called to heaven in 2005.
Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter and was an avid proponent of youth involvement in hunting through the Friends of Poynette Organization’s Learn To Hunt programs. He was very dedicated to passing forward the joys of upland hunting with well-trained bird dogs.
The Forest Home Animal Clinic would not be the way it is today without Dr. Rieser's dedication. He will always be remembered and deeply missed.
