Vaccinations and More From Our Collierville Veterinarian
At Collierville Animal Clinic & Surgery Center, we're committed to offering the services your pet needs for optimal health and wellness. Our very own Collierville veterinarians are proud to serve pets in the surrounding areas of Germantown and Piperton. We believe that knowledge is power when it comes to protecting your pet's health, which is why we want all dog owners to be educated on canine influenza, which is highly contagious and increasingly common in today's dog population.
Protecting Your Dog From Canine Influenza
Specifically, canine influenza is a virus that is spread by direct contact from one infected dog to the next; dogs of any age, breed, or sex can be infected by the virus, and some of the most common symptoms include:
- fever
- nasal discharge
- eye discharge
- lethargy
- decreased appetite
And while most dogs are able to recover from canine influenza on their own within a few weeks, others (including older dogs and dogs with weaker immune systems) could suffer severely. This is why it's so important for dog owners to see a vet as soon as their dog shows any symptoms.
The good news is that protecting your dog from canine influenza is easier than ever; by simply having your dog vaccinated against the virus, you can significantly reduce your chances of your dog contracting dog flu. This vaccination is available in our office here at Collierville Animal Clinic & Surgery Center, and with just two doses administered a few weeks apart, your dog could be protected for years to come. Not sure if your dog needs this vaccination? Our veterinarian would be happy to make a recommendation based on your dog's lifestyle and other medical considerations.
