What makes a veterinary technician registered?

As a registered veterinary technician (RVT) our specialized education provides us with the theory and the necessary practical skills to deliver a gold standard of care to our furry four-legged friends. However, in a field that is constantly growing and improving it is important for RVTs to keep their education up to date. Therefore in order to maintain a license status, registered veterinary technicians must complete continuing education (CE) courses so that we may continue to deliver a gold standard of care.

The OAVT conference hosted by the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians is a great way for technicians to obtain CE credits towards their licensed status by attending different lectures about the industry. Topics range from anesthesia and surgery, nutrition, pharmacology, parasitology and so much more. The OAVT Conference also hosts a Trade Show, where different companies showcase all sorts of advancements in technology such as ultrasound and x-ray machines, monitoring equipment for surgery, and developments in pet nutrition.

There is an abundance of information and innovation continually happening in the veterinary field, which means that there are never ending opportunities for RVTs to expand on their theory and skills. You can visit OAVT.org to learn more about how your veterinary technicians are committing themselves to improving your pet’s quality of care.
